“Sanctum” is a series of acrylic paintings that weave together realism, expressionism, and abstraction to explore both the physical environments we build and the inner refuges we seek. The acrylic paintings in the show are layered and shifting, reflecting my own search for stillness and clarity in the midst of life’s ongoing transitions.

Much of my practice is rooted in the complexities of womanhood, often using self-portraiture to question ideas of gender inequality, domestic life, interpersonal relationships, and the subjectivity of beauty. While figures in my paintings often appear abstracted or partially removed, I focus on surrounding details and patterns to evoke presence and absence at once.

My influences range from the feminist artists of the 1970s to the collage-based experiments of Wangechi Mutu and Mickalene Thomas, the late paintings of Philip Guston, and the emotional force of the Expressionists and Neo-Expressionists. I seek to create emotive images that hold both restlessness and refuge—offering a space for reflection that is at once deeply personal and open to others’ interpretations.
